Come near to God and he will come near to you ~ James 4:8
It seems the most natural way to pray is to bring our prayer requests to God. We sometimes act like He is the big vending machine in the sky. But God wants us to have so much more in our relationship with Him.
BE THANKFUL ~ Spend time each day with God sharing your gratitude and appreciation. No matter how much need you are in, there are always blessings in your life for which to be thankful.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. ~ Philippians 4:6
ASK FORGIVENESS ~ Jesus died for the forgiveness of all of our sins, but He wants us to acknowledge and turn away from our sinful behavior. This starts by reviewing our recent thoughts and actions to acknowledge things we have done either actively or through omission. Sometimes our sinfulness occurs unconsciously and God will bring it to our attention when we get quiet with Him. Acknowledging our sinful behavior and asking forgiveness is the first step towards turning away from repeating that sin in the future.
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. ~ Revelation 3:19
DISCOVER GOD’S WILL ~ God has a perfect plan for each of our lives. If we don’t take time to get quiet with God to have Him inspire us with His will, we will selfishly follow our own desires. When we live out our own will, we are living small. When we live out God’s will, we will be blessed beyond measure. Remember,
…we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~ Ephesians 2:10.
