Are You Married to the Perfect Spouse?

Are you married to the perfect spouse? Before you ponder this question too long, let me make it simple for you. The answer is NO! The Bible tells us,

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” ~ Romans 3:23

So if you are looking for your spouse to be perfect, remember, no spouse is perfect. Not yours, not mine…not YOU! We have all sinned and are in need of a Savior.

Often as Christians, we want to impose on others (and ourselves) that our salvation comes by living a certain way; behaving a specific way; avoiding particular behaviors or choices. But we are saved through our belief in Jesus. It is not Jesus plus something equals salvation. It is simply Jesus (plus nothing) equals salvation.

When we truly understand that we are blessed with this incredible gift from God, we want to live our lives in a way that more closely resembles the perfect life that Jesus modeled for us. However, while we are in these bodies and in this lifetime, we will still have a sin nature that falls short. We will continue needing God’s grace, and we need to extend that same grace to others. We called to love like Jesus. He does not expect us to be perfect, nor should we expect that of our spouse.

When we marry, our number one ministry is to our spouse. We can honor and glorify God by ministering to our spouse in a patient, unconditional, selfless way. Jesus loved us sacrificially with all our sins and imperfections. He calls us to do the same in our marriage and in the process model God’s love to others.
